    JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) seeks a motivated and outgoing individual to be part of one of CAAM’s latest innovative projects: Memories to Light. The ideal candidate is passionate about the Asian American community, filmmaking, and interested in film preservation.

Memories to Light is a project to collect and digitize 8mm, super 8, and 16mm home movies and to share them – and the stories they tell — to a broad public.

The candidate will finish the internship having gained real world experience in the areas of proper techniques in film handling and scanning, film editing under a deadline, short form filmmaking, and blogging.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Intern will learn how to properly inspect, prepare, and scan home movies from 8mm and super 8 gauge films using our on site film scanner.
    • Edit together a film(s) on Final Cut Pro X using home movie footage under supervisor’s direction.
Write and edit blog posts related to the Memories to Light project.
    • Database entry for newly scanned films.

The Memories to Light Intern should have excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, strong attention to detail, and possess adaptability, initiative and follow-through. The ideal candidate works well independently as well as in a team setting.

Fluency with Mac computers is required. Familiarity with Final Cut Pro X is preferred, however, deeper skills can be taught to the right candidate.
