    Development and Communications Internship

    Start date: 2015-10-31 07:00:00

    TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: October 31, 2015 – April 30, 2016 (option to extend internship is a possibility)

    TIME COMMITMENT: 10 – 20 hours per week (minimum of 10 hours/week preferred; may be asked to work some weekends and evenings)

    SALARY: Unpaid; college credit may be available

    JOB DESCRIPTION:
    The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) seeks motivated and outgoing individuals who are passionate about the Asian American community and media arts to join the CAAM Development and Communications team. Our department manages all corporate sponsor, partner and member relationships and special events for CAAM’s signature programs — CAAMFeast Awards, and its annual CAAMFest (formerly San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival). CAAMFest is the premier festival in North America dedicated to presenting the best in Asian American films, music and food programming.

    The interns will be introduced to Asian American history and the world of public and independent media at one of the most prestigious Asian American media arts organization in the country. The candidates will finish the internship having gained skills and knowledge in the areas of marketing, event planning and fundraising in a professional non-profit setting. As part of the team that produces major events, the interns will also have the opportunity to network with CAAM’s larger family of film and media makers, industry professionals and community organizations.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:
    Internship projects include but are not limited to:
    • Works with the Development staff to conduct research, solicit, and contract potential event sponsors
    • On-site logistical support for special events and fundraisers
    • Write, design and manage print and digital marketing materials
    • Assist with membership program as needed
    • Contributes meaningfully to staff meetings
    • General administrative support including filing, database entry and mailings

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    The Development Intern should have excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, experience with online research, problem-solving skills, excellent follow-through and initiative. The ideal candidate works well independently as well as in fast paced team setting.

    Fluency with Mac computers and MS Office software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required. Experience with Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, video editing software or databases and prior marketing or advertising experience, a plus.
