Bio/CV: 

Dolores McElroy is a Lecturer in the Film & Media Department at UC Berkeley. Through the lenses of Queer and Feminist Theory, her work interrogates questions of women and “excess,” including studies of the female voice and technology, melodrama, and what representations of post-menopausal women can tell us about post-modern geography.

In addition to a chapter in the forthcoming volume, Melodrama as Provacateur (Duke Unversity Press), edited by Christine Gledhill, Laura Horak, and Elizabeth Anker, Dolores’s work has appeared in Film QuarterlyLos Angeles Review of Books, and her chapter, “Arias for an Untold Want: The Queer Desire of the Diva Film,” is included in the Oxford Handbook of Queer Cinema, edited by Ronald E. Gregg and Amy Villarejo. She holds a PhD in Film & Media from UC Berkeley, and a Master’s Degree in Film Studies from Columbia University. She is currently finishing her book, Passionate Failures: The Diva Onscreen, which is under contract with Oxford University Press.
