Bio

Christopher Goetz completed his Ph.D. in Film & Media at Berkeley in 2016. He is currently Assistant Professor of Film Studies in the Department of Cinematic Arts at the University of Iowa.

Chris’s first book project, The Counterfeit Coin: Videogames and Fantasies of Empowerment, is currently under contract at Rutgers University Press. His published works have appeared in Games and Culture, Game Studies: The International Journal of Computer Game Research, Camera Obscura, New Media & Society, The Psychoanalytic Study of the Child, and an edited volume on Queer Game Studies.

His research focuses on fantasy, nostalgia, and queer temporality in games, cinema, and other media. He is one of the founding organizers of the annual Queerness and Games Conference.
