Dissertation: “Spy Craft: Seriality, The Americans, and Digital Ambivalence”
Postdoctoral Fellow, Georgia Tech
Lisa Wells Jacobson is a Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellow in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Tech. Her scholarship asks how contemporary television writes history. Her recent work investigates how US period television serials like The Americans (FX, 2013-2018) dramatize discontent with today’s digitally connected world by imagining a slower, more human-scale past. She is currently researching the rise of openly anachronistic historical films and television series in the “post-truth” era. Her writing has appeared in Film Quarterly and is forthcoming in New Review of Film and Television Studies and The Oxford Handbook of Global Realisms.
In addition to her PhD in Film & Media from UC Berkeley, Lisa holds MAs in Rhetoric from Berkeley and in Art & Literature from Leiden University in the Netherlands. Her broader interests include emerging media theory, critical media pedagogy, and teaching multimodal writing.
