A Ph.D. or equivalent in Film/Cinema Studies or a related field must be in hand by July 1, 2015.

Applicants for an assistant professor position need, at a minimum, to be in the process of writing a doctoral dissertation or the equivalent at the time of application; applicants for an associate or full professor position must hold a PhD or equivalent in Film/Cinema Studies or a related field at the time of application. Additional qualifications for all applicants include: broad competence in New Media studies, demonstrable either through formal study or publication record; the ability to teach courses in New Media theory/history and digital culture and media; and a strong understanding of the study of media in the Arts & Humanities. At the associate or full professor level, preference will be given to applicants with a distinguished record of research and publication; at the assistant professor level, preference will be given to applicants demonstrating clear evidence of scholarly potential. Research and teaching interest in critical race theory or gender is also preferred.

Apply here. Applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and writing sample of not more than 25 pp. As part of their application, applicants are asked to discuss their research and teaching interests, which may be done either in the cover letter or in the form of additional statements on research and teaching. Applicants should also submit names of and contact information for three referees; letters will be solicited for finalists. All letters will be treated as confidential per University of California policy and California state law. Please refer potential referees, including when letters are provided via a third party (i.e., dossier service or career center), to the UC Berkeley statement of confidentiality (http://apo.chance.berkeley.edu/evalltr.html) prior to submitting their letters.

Applications must be received by October 1, 2014. Please direct questions to the Chair of the Search Committee at film_search@berkeley.edu.
