"I see each film/video project as a ‘first film’ with its own cinematic language, one that the viewer learns and engages with as the piece unfolds." — Scott Stark
Both a passionate purist and a cynical skeptic, Scott Stark’s cinema “emphasize the physicality of film while cross-referencing it to the world outside the theater, attempting to lay bare the paradoxes of modern culture and the magical nature of the perceptual experience.”
Stark has made over 80 films, videos, moving image installations and live performances since 1980. His work has shown nationally and internationally including the Museum of Modern Art, The Pacific Film Archive, The Whitney Biennial, London Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, Oberhausen Film Festival (Berlin), New York Film Festival, San Francisco International Film Festival, and Telluride. His film “The Realist” was listed as one of the ten best films of 2013. Stark lives and works between Austin and San Francisco.
