This intermediate screenwriting class explores the art and craft of developing and writing serialized narrative scripts. In the first half of the course students simulate the creative and collaborative process of a TV writers’ room by working together to develop a spec script based on an existing series. In the second half of the semester each writer creates a portion of a pilot script for an original series. All students will workshop pitches, outlines and scenes in class.
Lecture topics include episodic concept development, analysis of a variety of story structures, “breaking” a story, creating engaging characters, plot blending, arcs for characters, episodes and seasons.
Prerequisites: Film 180 or some screenwriting experience. Consent of instructor required.
The class is open to juniors and seniors. Preference is given to Film & Media majors.

The deadline to apply is Friday, July 30th. Students considered for enrollment may be contacted by the instructor for a short zoom interview. Students will be notified of enrollment by August 10th.
