*This course will be taught via Remote-Synchronous instruction.

    Lecture: Th 1-4pm

Film 181 is designed for the writer with screenwriting experience. Students will develop and write a portion of a feature length, narrative screenplay or one of more episodes of an original TV show. In addition, all students will participate in both the collaborative process of the writers room and workshop critiques.

Emphasis is on rewriting and critiquing work. Class members present their work on a regular basis and continually develop their scripts based on supportive criticism by their fellow writers.

Lectures/discussions focus on conventional and non-conventional story structure (film and TV), finding ways to create dynamic and engaging characters, scene structure and unifying material through multiple storylines and character arcs. We’ll also explore adaptation as a way to articulate a project’s core story and themes.

Prerequisites: This class is open to juniors and seniors with screenwriting experience. Preference is given to Film & Media majors.

Consent of instructor required. Interested students should fill out an application form at https://forms.gle/fs5qgAyL9rvbHkR99. In order to allow students to easily enroll in a backup class, joining the waitlist is not required.

The deadline to apply is Nov 27th. Students considered for enrollment will be contacted by the instructor for a short zoom interview. Students will be notified of enrollment by Dec 11th.
