Bio

Eileen Jones teaches a variety of courses on film history, film adaptation, and neglected aspects of film studies such as color theory and performance in film, but her primary focus is on genre and auteur courses, with a particular emphasis on the creative contradictions inherent in the cinema of the “genre auteur.” This area of interest informed her work in independent film as a producer, screenwriter, and development executive, with feature film credits including Suture, The Deep End, and Conceiving Ada. She is also the editor of a monograph series entitled “Genre Film Auteurs” for Lexington Books, and is writing American Dreamers: The Films of the Coen Brothers for inclusion in the series. Published books in the series are Deborah Allison’s The Cinema of Michael Winterbottom, Paul Monaco’s John Dahl and Neo-Noir, and Steve Rybin’s The Cinema of Michael Mann. She is currently the staff film critic of Jacobin magazine, has written extensive film criticism for such publications as AlterNet, eXiled, and NSFW Corp, and recently published a volume of collected film criticism entitled Filmsuck USA
